Locally known non profits
180 Turning Lives Around, believes that the solution to all of society's ills begins with how people treat one another. They tackle sensitive social issues that few others will such as domestic violence, sexual assault, incest, child abuse and neglect. Their ultimate goal is to end domestic and sexual violence within the community. Through prevention efforts like supporting the youth in making good choices by teaching them how to solve problems before they become overwhelming. They're committed to providing caring, specialized, confidential and professional services that empower victims to become survivors and prevent those at risk from being victimized.
2nd Floor is a confidential and anonymous helpline for New Jersey's youth and young adults. They are here to help find solutions to problems at home, at school, and even at play. They have a hotline where anyone can call in for advice with concerns or problems. They train all volunteers who answer these calls.
The New Jersey Self Help Clearinghouse: NJSHC has a mission to increase the awareness, utilization, development, and understanding of mutual aid self-help groups to reduce emotional suffering and isolation.
Mutual aid self-help groups are run by and for people who share a common problem or life situation. Members come together to share their experience, strength and hope, and practical information. Mutual help is at the core of the groups. The groups are non-profit, voluntary, on-going, and are open to individuals who share similar problems.
Nationally known non profits
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: SPCA mission is to investigating and prosecuting anyone involved in animal abuse and neglect. Through the tireless efforts of their highly trained and professional law enforcement personnel, they are making a difference...one animal at a time.
In addition, they are committed to educating the public on responsible pet ownership. The SPCA is funded solely by donations, grants, bequests, and fines levied. It receives no government funding or tax dollars.
Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) has operated under the belief that child has the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, they make meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles), of the ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. They develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war. They distinguish themselves by aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services, always with the aim of preventing and relieving suffering.
Today, in addition to domestic disaster relief, the American Red Cross offers compassionate services in five other areas: community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs.
